Summer
Ah! SUMMER!!
Although summer has not officially started, we are officially in summer season. All the regular meetings for youth group and all the extra activities at church are done for now. As much as we absolutely love Sunday nights, it’s nice to have a change of pace. And that change of pace means BEACH VOLLEYBALL!! When Dan was doing his internship at the CRC before he was officially hired, him and the youth pastor then started the ritual of playing beach volleyball on Sundays after church. And it is a legacy that continues to live on. We start at about 1ish and play til about 4 or5 (or until we can’t even hit the ball anymore). It’s open to all Roots (high school) kids and college kids. As much as we love the sport, I think we enjoy the fellowship and friendships that are built during that time. Everyone always looks so forward to it and asks us every Sunday if we’re going to play. Dan and I have learned that it’s not necessarily the “wow” factor of an event that the kids want, but just the simple act of getting together around a simple activity or sport that builds the best relationships and brings the most enjoyment. So this summer we’ve decided to not try to do huge activities, but have more pool parties, cookouts, and time to just hang out. Kids are soooo busy these days with sports, jobs, and family activities, that the last thing we want to do it make them more busy, but just offer up opportunities for them to hang out if they are bored. Youth ministry is such a beautiful thing!
Dan is currently fishing in the Cadet Fishing Tournament at Gun Lake today. It’s basically a fundraiser for the Cadet Corporation, not just through our church. When Dan saw the registration form, him and our friend Adam KNEW they had to enter it! And they were soooo excited and have gone all out for it! They even got someone to semi-sponsor them :), like people would do it a hardcore tourney. Of course new fishing poles, bait, and sunflower seeds had to be bought to make sure they won. I’ll have to let you know when I know, how they did! Dan and Adam go fishing every Monday night together and it’s so good for them! Dan is a guy who needs to be outdoors and anything that draws him out there, he’ll do it. He basically has an outdoor sport for every season!! But that’s okay :).
I’ve got the itch to paint again (I seem to every June), so I painted a wall in our bedroom. Our bedspread has navy in it, so I thought it would look nice to do accent a wall in navy, so that’s what I did this morning. Dan will come home to that pleasant surprise (hopefully!). It’s just nice to paint before it gets in the 90 degree weather because paint just doesn’t dry well then!
Well, I believe that is all the latest news on the Sterks!
You need to post a picture of your painting results. Good color choice, I am sure it gives your room lots more pizazz!
