All Becoming Someone

Have you ever thought about that?
How we are never NOT being shaped by something? Okay, let me get rid of the double negative. WE ARE ALWAYS BEING SHAPED BY SOMETHING.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Either we can conform to the world and be shaped by it, or we can be TRANSFORMED by renewing our minds and being shaped by God.
One is definitely easier than the other, isn’t it? It’s easier to be conformed to the patterns of this world, for this is where we live. But we don’t have to stay stuck here! We can be TRANSFORMED by the word of God, by immersing our minds, our thoughts, our actions, our pursuits, our dreams, and holding them up to the light of the gospel, transforming us into the likeness of him.
So how do we do that?
Stop scrolling.
Social media is an indefinite trap. The more you scroll, the faster the scrolling, and the longer, looking for something to satisfy. It NEVER WILL, except to shape us into someone that is world-conformed, not God-transformed. Social media was never created to satisfy our desires – only GOD can.
Immerse.
Check your bags at the door. All the things we want to take from the world into our walks with Christ, we have to check them at the door. Instead, we need to go to God with nothing in tow, but with open hands, immersing ourselves in HIS will for our lives.
Pray.
We can sometimes go into prayer thinking we can change God’s mind, but in the end, it’s us who are changed. Prayer shapes us. Prayer changes US. Prayer transforms us into the people God has called us to be – in communion with Him. As we seek His will, His desires become ours. Prayer creates this relationship and changes us to look more like the Savior.
What is shaping you? What are you conforming to? What are you allowing to transform you? Is it the world and all things horizontal? Or is it God and all thing vertical? Let the light of Christ transform so that we can all become someone who looks like HIM.
Great message, Kristin! Thanks for sharing!
