Are You Enjoying Life?
Do you enjoy your life?
Really though, when you look back on your life and even today, are you enjoying life? If so, in what ways do you feel like you are living life to the fullest? If you don’t, what’s missing? What empty void do you feel?
Life hasn’t gone the way I thought it would in my head. God has allowed some twists and turns that have thrown me for more than a loop, but this has been life. But if I’m honest with myself, when I take a look back, I wouldn’t trade it. Amidst the struggles, pain, and at times what felt like suffering, I have found myself enjoying life in a way I couldn’t have planned myself or curated for myself.
With social media, it’s easy to try and copy the behaviors of someone else. Buy what they have, dress the way they do, and make our hair look like theirs. Hello reels, Instagram, etc. But in doing so, we lose sight of our ultimate calling and live up to horizontal standards.
When it comes to enjoying life, it has everything to do with the joy we have in Christ and not the temporary indulgences of this world. There are deeper treasures awaiting us. But are we truly willing to leave behind what temporarily satisfies, to experience a more satisfying life in Christ?
Life may not look the way you had hoped it would. And I can dare say, most of us can probably say that. But do you seek to enjoy the life God has given you? You can still enjoy it amidst the pain. The loss. The suffering. Because these are temporary. You can still enjoy it amidst the pressures of this world to conform to it’s ways. Because when we follow Christ, we realize He is so much more. You can still enjoy life, even when the future seems uncertain because we know who holds it.
This week I have 3 different heart appointments to figure out what to do next with this ole ticker and a few blood tests to ensure my leukemia is “still in prison” as Mazy calls it. When these types of appointments and tests come up, my mind right away wonders if the leukemia is back. But life is not meant to be lived in fear, but in a peace that surpasses all understanding, knowing that we can enjoy this life, no matter what God may allow.
So let me ask you again, are you enjoying life? What difficult moments are you able to look back on and say, “God, thank you for still giving me a joy-filled life because of you?” Joy isn’t based on our circumstances, but in the promises of God. Cling to them. Hold them close. Memorize them. Enjoy this life because God has given it to you, as a gift, to enjoy.
Let’s make the most of it!
Thank you for these thoughts. Sometimes we forget what God has done for us even if the road is not always smooth!! Praying for your little family!!!
Thank you for your prayers, Betty! It’s easy to go through the day and just go through it, instead of remembering why we are here! So well said!
