Day 69: Unnecessary Multiples
What: Multiples
Why: Do you have multiples of something (like more than 2), but realize you really only use the same one or two everytime? Do you have multiples of something when there really is no need to have two of it? How many things in your house do you have double of, but really only use one and only NEED one? Here are some examples of multiples that you may have hiding in your home: vases, water bottles, measuring spoons, measuring cups, office supplies, to just name a few. Why do we hang onto them? Here are some ideas on how to NOT store what you do not need.
How:
1. This will take a little time, but as you are going through this 100 Day challenge, think about and find the multiples you have. Put them aside if needed.
2. Decide:
- Do I really need more than one of this item?
- Why do I have multiples of it?
- Will I ever use the other?
- Do I favor one over the other?
- Could someone else find a better use for it?
3. Donate what you can live without. If you have a favorite and are hanging onto the other for when you lose or break it, get rid of the multiple – you will probably end up buying new anyways because you will forget you have it.
4. Enjoy the simplicity of having only ONE choice when needing to use a vase, a measuring cup, or notebook.
Confession of the Day: I used to save more than one of an item for when the other broke. For example, I kept two sets of measuring spoons. Why, I still have yet to understand because I have never used both sets at once. Same with my measuring cups. Having two, only cluttered up my cupboards and drawers. To the donation center they went! I think we often keep multiples of things because again, we think we MIGHT use it someday. This happens with makeup, tupperware, pens, you name it. We save and save and save, yet never use. Time to give up the multiples so that you can clear more space in life for the things that matter! Living with less means getting rid of the excess – it takes time, but you will be so thankfully you took the time!
What do you find yourself keeping multiples of?
