Day 91: Copycat Home Decor
What: Copycat Home Decor
Why: Pottery Barn. Crate and Barrel. Anthropologie. If you want some new decorating ideas, just gaze at their catalogs and websites and you will be inspired! You then glance at the price tag and think “they want WHAT for that bedspread?” You start to get sweaty palms and wonder “why am I even looking at this catalog?” You put it down, get frustrated, and wish you could design your rooms to look like the ones in the magazines. In your dreams right? Wrong. The solution couldn’t be more simple. Here’s the answer.
How:
1. Knock Off Decor – www.knockoffdecor.com
That is it! All of those ideas that you see in magazines (and many more!) are sitting here FREE for the taking. That painted American flag on wood that you wanted to buy? You can make it yourself for as cheap as you want to make it. Why spend a fortune on home decor when you can make it for MUCH cheaper?
2. Time – yes, it will take more time to make the item than simply click “add to cart” on the company’s website. In making it yourself, think about the money you are saving AND the joy there is in making it yourself.
3. Don’t get addicted – it is easy to spend hours on this website, finding new decorating ideas. Be mindful of the time you spending on anything – including this website!
4. Have a purpose. Do not make something, just to make it. Have a reason and a place to put the item. If you are not careful, you will only be making things, that will serve no purpose.
Confession of the Day: You may be wondering why I would choose one of the 100 days to just talk about one website? Well, I think often times we are so quick to spend money on something to keep up with the decorating Joneses. Living with less means saving money when able. Why spend money on overpriced home decor? In making a decorative item, you will think twice about making it – not always the case when buying something. When you make it yourself, you appreciate it more. You will most likely have a specific purpose for it because you are spending the time on it. We don’t view spending money on an item the same – we spend, display, and ignore it. Living with less means having a purpose for everything you have in your home.
What have you found on the website that you can’t wait to make?
Many thanks for creating so good blog! i have book marked it and will be back!
