Forgetting To Declutter: Hats and Gloves
You are probably wondering why in the world I am talking about hats and gloves in the middle of summer, but really, this is the PERFECT time to be talking about this! Thinking about a blizzard right now is slightly less than appealing. Though, it is when that first snow storm or blizzard hits that we wished we would’ve decluttered the hats and gloves supply.
I realize this post hits on us northerners more than the sunny southerners, but lets be honest. With the way the weather has been going, really anybody could be preparing, decluttering, and organizing their hats and glvoes supply!
For me, our hats and gloves supply was ridiculous. Yes, it gets REALLY cold in Minnesota, but not where I need to wear 10 pairs of gloves and 20 hats at one time. Okay, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration – I do not own that many of any of those items, but still. But STILL. Our designated hats and gloves box was filled and overflowing. It’s time to do something about it!
It is easy to forget about this area because for most, you only use them no more than 6 months out of the year. The other 6 months, they are out of sight, out mind, right? Well, that should be the case, but it is easy to see the box or bin and be overwhelmed with the clutter of it.
You do not want to forget to declutter this area and here are a few tips on how to get started:
1. What was worn this past year? Whatever was NOT worn, get rid of. It’s that simple.
2. If you have hats or gloves that go with a certain coat and you don’t even OWN that coat anymore, time to get rid of them. Or, if you have a pair of gloves or hat that doesn’t go with anything, donate them.
3. Make sure you have the matching gloves and not all lefties!
4. Ensure nothing has a hole in it, needs to be fixed, or anything that would cause you not to wear it.
5. Figure out what you need for the next winter season. This is a GREAT time to figure out what sizes you need, look through what you have, and what you need to buy. Make a list and put it in your back to school folder or in a “safe” spot where you will find it.
Now when that first snowstorm hits, you are not scrambling to find a pair of gloves and hat for each child. They won’t be caught wearing dad’s hat that covers their whole face while you are rushing out shopping to find a new one. Prevent stress, scrambling, and clutter, by decluttering your hats and gloves today!
