Game Week – Emoji Bible Story Card Game
We are gamers.
I’m not talking about pulling out the controller, turning on the TV, and glued-to-the-screen type games. I’m talking about a physical board with game pieces and paper directions. For our family, after dinner is cleaned up and the table is wiped down, but before our 6-year-old needs to get some zzz’s, we often pull out a game. We normally resort to a game of her choice, but thanks to Bible Games Central, now she chooses games that teach Christian truths while challenging the mind.
Bible Games Central, (which by the way, has NUMEROUS FREE GAMES that you can download for your ministry, youth group, kids, family, and Sunday school), has introduced 5 new games recently and I’m eager to share more about these games with you this week! The first game is the one I was the most intrigued about due to the title, but hands down, this one is our favorite! Let me introduce you to the Emoji Bible Stories Card Game.
There are 4 different ways to play this game, which makes this game even more fun!
Here are the various types of cards available in this game: Emoji Cards, Green Story Cards, Purple Story Cards, and Bible Story Cards:
You can use any of the 3 sets of cards below to pair with the blue emoji cards:
Our favorite is the purple set: We actually made our own version of the game where we make a big pile of the blue cards as seen below (flipped over so the blue side is up), and we draw cards until we create the story on our purple card:
There are a LOT of emoji blue cards, which makes this game all the more fun:
Game 1: Match and Guess
At first I wondered, how can you combine a Biblical story with emojis, and Bible Games Central nailed it. These are just 3 of the cards I drew to tell the story of Jesus being arrested in the garden. After I get all 6, we tell the story using the emoji cards, or if it’s not a familiar story to our daughter, we use the Bible story cards to paraphrase it for us! It gets intense when we both have 5, but are waiting until we draw that 6th card…
Another way to play this round is to not show the purple card and after you get all 6, see if the other players can guess the story!
Game 2: Tell an Emoji Bible Story
Another way to play is to tell a Bible story on your green story card, using 3 blue emoji cards. If the other players think that the cards you chose are the right cards for that story, then you score a point; takes 3 points to win. So for instance, for Noah’s ark, I chose these 3 emoji cards (below). Would you give me a point?
Game 3: Guess the Bible Story:
Another version of this is to flip over your green story card (the one with words), and one by one, flip over your blue emoji cards. First player to guess the story, wins that round.
Game 4: Snap and Redeem
This game is great for those less familiar with the Bible. Play a variation of “Snap” to win Emoji Cards.
Then use 3 Emoji Cards to redeem a Purple Story Card. The first player to redeem 3 Purple Story Cards wins the game!
We have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game, especially with all of it’s variations! Not to mention, our daughter is learning these Bible stories through simple pictures and Biblical truths that will hopefully go with her for a lifetime.
