Today was beautiful. Beautiful for so many reasons and it feels so good to say that. Many who live in Michigan are well aware of this, but today’s storms truly proved God’s power! The wind, cloud cover, and even warnings, are just a glimpse of God’s power through weather storms, but also reminded me today…

  • Heart Journey Update

Just wanted to give a quick appointment update. I know no one is expecting me to give these updates, nor are many this open about their life, but I can’t help but share God’s story and glory. Even if it isn’t an easy journey. I knew it wouldn’t be a very eventful appointment with the…

  • You Are My Hope

Yesterday while driving home after my appt. (and dropping Dan off at squirrel camp in Fennville for the weekend), I started to cry. Tears of relief, tears of sadness, and tears of lost hope. I was listening to the radio and trying to soak in each song on 99.3 and guess what song comes on?…

  • God’s Hand, My Heart

Today wasn’t what we expected, but God was never surprised. The past couple of weeks, a few times I have woken up with shortness of breath and a bit wheezy in the morning. I chalked it up to allergies since we had our window open, and the farmers are in the fields. It all made…

  • Coming Out Of The Fog

Think back to a time in your life when things were just plain hard. Do you remember being in a bit of a fog? With any traumatic event, I would say this “fog” is something that is to be expected, though I did not see it coming. I’ve heard it said that being under anesthesia,…

  1. Just hanging on in a very low valley ( actually valley is too nice a word). So let’s all pray! And try to understand what God is saying to us.

  2. Hi Kristen – first I wanted to let you know that I recently saw your profile on the AHA survivor site, am reading your book and praying for you and your family. You are an amazing sister in Christ and someone who has inspired me when I needed some uplifting.

Your note came at a time where I am probably in the middle. Tonight as I was praying I asked the Lord to help me to give my condition to Him as my healer. You said something in your book that has stuck with me. “I cannot place my faith into something that will not stand as eternal – my body.”

You see – like you I had no warning signs but was hit with an HA in May of this year. I am fit, eat right, don’t smoke/drink – low cholesterol etc. The Lord in His perfect timing allowed the healing to take place quickly so that I did not have any lasting significant damage.

It lead though to questions as to why and what happened. I suspected genetics so I had my blood work done this week and viola elevated LP(a) levels. This is a particularly sinister lipoprotein that does not show up in the traditional cholesterol panels and statins do not help. There are some ways to treat it but it is not well understood. Also, now my body is losing calcium quickly – probably from diet/medicines – who knows. I feel tired due to the side effects of the drugs I am on. Which is a new reality for me.

Then I read your notes, your book, your story and your amazing faith. It really reminded me that everything happens according to His purpose and His plan. Nothing can happen to a child of God unless He allows it and it always has a purpose and plan. I can choose to keep my faith or allow myself to feel defeated.

This week I met with our Pastor and asked if I could be part of the visitation ministry to pray/visit others. Perhaps start a Bible led group with similar ‘cardiac Christians’ and perhaps one day start a blog like yours. I also have a story to tell and want to glorify God with it.

Thank you for your words, your faith and I am praying for you and your family. I know He has a plan for you and there are great people working on your case. He will heal and provide. God bless you.

    1. Hey Jeff!

Thank you so so much for your message! I know this sounds so incredibly cliché to say and what we would deem the “Christian” thing to say, but I mean it in all seriousness, all glory to God! One thing (out of several) that I have appreciated about this heart journey is the people God has connected me with and the ability to hear THEIR stories. No story is more important than another because we ALL have a place in the greater story of God’s redemptive purposes. And so you too, Jeff, have a story to tell and I was so excited to read that you want to join the visitation ministry at your church! That is the PERFECT place to start, honestly. Taking the time to listen to other’s journeys. We all have such different stories, but equally influencing, if we are just willing to listen. In fact, I am working on another book about this very thing – learning to embrace the stories God has given each of us. And to hear about your hopes and dreams with the story God has given you, reiterates the fact that you live your life for HIM alone, and that you just want to make HIS name known, through what He has allowed in your life. It will be life-changing for MANY!

That is crazy about the LP(a) levels that were off – just so crazy that a heart attack is what led them to this finding. Isn’t it just mind boggling what God allows, in order to open the eyes of His people in His perfect timing? Who knew? I’m sure you were rather shocked by this news, but in a way, I bet it was comforting to know there was an answer. Though I’ve learned that side effects from drugs are no joke lol!

Jeff, thank you for taking the time to share these encouraging words with me. Being in a tough time in life, to know that God is still using ya, is a reminder that He is NEVER done, right? He is always working in ways we never know and will never know, but to hear about these little glimpses brings much encouragement to my OWN faith – to realize that God’s glory is so much grander than I will ever comprehend. All for Him!

Keep in touch! Let me know how the ministry is going and the idea of a blog! I LOVE the idea of starting a Bible led group for “cardiac Christians!” Doubt there is one out there! Thank you for your prayers, support, and for taking the time to share this. Blessings to you as well, Jeff!
