Home Tour – Desk Area
A small, but frequently used area of our home is the desk. It is actually my old desk from when I was a child. My parents had hung onto it and I am thankful they did! When we moved into our house, I needed an area where I could put “desky” type items such as scissors, paper clips, tape, papers, and the most odds and ends items one can think of. I need a base where all my papers and office items can be stored so that I know exactly where they are. One of the biggest keys to controlling clutter is to ensure everything has a place. This desk area is my solution!
The corkboard I bought from Hobby Lobby when it was 50% off, which fits perfectly on that wall. I found cute little tacks with hooks on them at Target and ordered plain little clipboards online, so that I could hang them. I used some scrapbook paper to cover them, to create a bit of design contrast. On those clipboards I hang my meal plan (IF I did one for the week, a Bible verse, and any other important papers. I also have hanging my postage stamps and address labels, library and shipping receipts, a small calendar, and a quote. Simple yet things that I access OFTEN.
On the right of the desk stands my pencil/pen holder, a stack of sticky notes, and a small glass jar wrapped with jute that I intend to put flowers in one day!
In the top left drawer I have my home management binder that I have used for about 4 years now! Don’t know what I would do without it!
The second drawer consists of computer paper, address book, old school phone book, and some of my Michigan heart papers.
The 3rd drawer has all of our parts and pieces to items we have, like extra screws for the crib, headphones, blood pressure monitor, and other random items. You get the picture.
The top right drawer has all of our office supplies such as a ruler, scissors, discount cards, tape, fabric tape measurer, masking tape, you name it. Mazy knows that drawer well since she uses tape as bandaids for her stuffed animals! Which is fine by me – if she wants to use her imagination and play doctor, tape is so cheap that we can spare a few pieces. Though if you wouldn’t know that the tape across her teddy is a bandaid, you’d wonder why in the world there is a strip of tape on it’s head! Love her creativity!
On this desk often sits the items that I use frequently – like the playing cards we use for the game hand and foot. This game we played often with friends and since we missed playing it so much, Dan and I go on kicks and play two-player when we get the chance. We still need a cheat card with the rules, though.
The basket on the desk is my catch-all. It looks like complete chaos, but I will ensure you it is an organized mess at that! I could probably list almost everything in that basket because I frequent it that often! It has everything from encouraging cards from my surgery, my rehab papers, Mazy’s and I’s sunglasses, to bills. And many items in between! I just know that in that basket, holds everything I basically need on a weekly basis. It can get full, so I clean it out every so often, but that chaos-looking basket does wonders! I am rarely misplacing papers and items, thanks to that little basket!
I would like to get a cute stool or chair for the desk, but haven’t quite found the right one. Though I also haven’t looked very hard either. I’d like to get new hardware for the desk, but that is kind of down the list of things to do right now. It’s the perfect area right now and it’s serving the purpose it needs to!
