Home Tour – Dining Room
I recently did a tour of our living room and now I’m excited to show you a glimpse of our dining room!
One thing we appreciate (amongst MANY other things) is that it has an open concept. Our house was built in the 1920s, so it’s almost 100 years old, but I’m sure back in the day, it was very sectioned off like most old houses are. In fact, we can faintly see some seems of where a wall used to be…oh how we’d LOVE to see what our house looked like back then!
Our dining room and kitchen are connected into one room, with a counter separating them. When we were looking for a house, one thing we were really wanting was a large dining room so that we could comfortably have people over. Unfortunately my health hasn’t been the greatest so we haven’t had people over as much as we would have liked to since moving back to Michigan, but nevertheless, we now have the space!
Like I have mentioned before, our table was actually made by one of our friends! Before we moved, Dan and Matt were going to make us a table, but we were all incredibly busy, so it did not happen. Well, the night before we were going to move, he said we needed to take their table. Of course we said no…I mean who takes their friend’s dining room table from their house, that they use everyday? Well, we did. They took our old one and we took theirs. They DEFINITELY got the short end of the stick on that one! We shared MANY meals together while living in Minnesota, so eating at that table multiple times a day, means so much to us! We brought our chairs with us, painted them white, and recovered them. As for the fabric chairs, I got them for free through Wayfair, via blogging.
We recently added a dining room light (from Menards). We used to have a ceiling fan, but the light did not work. We tried EVERYTHING to fix it, but realized our best bet would be to just buy a different fan or light. The room lacked any sort of light, except the minimal light we received through the back door, so we wanted to make it vibrant and bright. Well, this light did not disappoint! The rug was here when we moved in and underneath is more unfinished wood. We would like to eventually replace the unfinished wood, but we know that is a big project!
In the corner of our dining room, I have my old desk from when I was a kid. More on that area later. The mirror hanging, I received from Wayfair through blogging. In Minnesota, we did not have a place to put it and I even tried to sell it, but I am so thankful it didn’t sell! Now I found the perfect place for it!
This is one of my favorite areas of our home – the bay window. Not that I really use it for much and it only looks out to our neighbors house, but the large windows are so welcoming! I made two out of the 3 pillows sitting on each side, which makes it fun because I can interchange the covers if I want to, for each new season!
In the middle of our table sits a little wood box that we keep our favorite toddler’s Bible – The Beginner’s Bible along with our salt and pepper shakers and napkins.
I LOVE making puzzles, so this is a common scene in our home. We eat on one half of our table and a puzzle sits on the other!
This little corner is the PERFECT catch-all for my projects! I often have a gallon of paint sitting there to remind me of the projects I want to do. It gives me the inspiration I need, I guess!
What changes have we made?
Painted the walls, crown molding, and floor boards. Gray is called Mindful Gray from Sherwin Williams – 7016
Had a drywaller mud over some of the cracks and repainted the ceiling
Repainted the window frame and bench.
Made and bought pillows for the bay window to match the gray.
Put up a new light.
That is a glimpse into our dining room!
