Being a blogger, I have the privilege of “meeting” (rarely face to face), readers and others who are striving to live their lives with less, while making what they have, work. Mary, an incredible woman who has already inspired me in many ways, shared this simple of idea of how to add lighting into your closet, without either destroying the ceiling or buying rope lighting. Not only can you now see what is in your closet, but this is also a home “remedy” at a very low cost. Thank you Mary, for sharing this simple yet clever idea!
FIRST STEP:
I had no electrical plug in the closet, so I purchased (for about a dollar) a screw-in duplex fixture that would accommodate both an extension cord and a light bulb. I drew the cord to the back wall of the closet and stapled it in place. I let the plug-in part of the cord drop down to the bottom shelf of the closet.
SECOND STEP:
I decided to use these velvety skinny hangers to save space.
THIRD STEP:
Because I couldn’t find a 6-foot rope light, I used white Christmas lights to place along the bottom shelf. It was cumbersome to intertwine them in the shelf, so I just laid them on the shelf and secured with zip ties, one on each end.
FOURTH STEP:
Here’s the finished product!
It’s like doubling the closet storage because I can finally see everything on both racks!
How about THAT for making do with what you have, instead of redesigning the whole closet? That is what I LOVE about organizing life with less – it is finding what you have, repurposing it, so that everything in your home HAS a purpose. Something as simple as white Christmas lights, transformed a closet! To me, that is part of what life is about – being a good steward of everything we own.
Thanks again Mary, for taking the time to share this simple idea with us!
I ordered this dress and it's gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. In any shop you'd pay a huge amount for this dress. I am so pleased with the dress and I don't regret buying online at all.
