  • A Different Perspective

We have visitors :)! Dan’s brother Tom, his wife Kari and there 2 kids made the trek from Michigan to Minnesota yesterday! It is always nice having a piece of family out here! Thankfully the snow is gone (much different weather than when my parents were out here!) and we can enjoy the sights of…

  • Thoughts On This Tuesday

How are you feeling the week after Christmas? Do you feel like it’s a letdown this week? Do you feel you missed the point of Christmas because you got caught up in the hussle and bussle? Yesterday there was a customer at the store that I was talking to about this whole subject. He feels…

  • Welcome Home Embryos!

Dear Dan and Kristin, Your two babies are tucked away safely in me, taking residence with Jesus who also lives in me. This is the text we received at 10:36am this morning from Brenda. Got a little teary-eyed after reading that one! Praise be to God that our embryos are safe in her womb and most…

  • Around the Home

I LOVE where we live. There is something about living in a small town that you can simply walk through and enjoy the beauty of. That is our town. I grew up one town north in the country and although I miss the open landscape at times, I don’t have to travel far to see…

  • A Time Away

Last week, we went on my family’s annual vacation, up in northern lower Michigan. We have gone to this place 5 years in a row now, and it is just perfect. Also, the timing could not have been more perfect. The day before we left, I received a call that I needed to stop taking…

  1. Kristin – what a journey you have been on! And what a testimony you have by sharing it with others. I’m curious if you had a bone marrow transplant, or a stem cell transplant? Where did you have it done? 20 years ago this Saturday I was the donor (stem cells) for my brother. And I’m so happy to say he is still alive – he is now 58. We did it at U of M in Ann Arbor.

    1. Hi Wendy! Thank you for your comment! That is a great question! So I had a stem cell transplant (thought they still call it a bone marrow transplant), b/c I think that is typically what they do these days. They have the donor take shots about 5 days prior so that eventually their bone marrow spills over into their blood, so technically it’s a stem cell transplant, but they still all it a BMT? I had mine done in Grand Rapids, but my donor is from Germany! I think it is incredible that you are able to give 20 years ago and that your brother is still doing well today! What an incredible gift you gave him, Wendy! Did you do a BMT or a stem cell? I’m thinking stem cell, but truly, what a sacrificial gift you gave him and that he is doing so well. I find this all so fascinating! I was originally going to have mine done at U of M, but because we’d have to move out there for a year, we asked if we could be referred to GR, and a doctor there was willing to accept me, which was SUCH a gift, so that my family wouldn’t have to move out there with me! Technology is such a gift and I know it’s sometimes hard to balance it all, but God has been so gracious to us all and Wendy, your testimony speaks of the same! Thank you for sharing your experience and I am so grateful that your brother is doing well because of your donation!
