Organizing With Mason Jars
I am a country girl at heart.
Walking through antique shops, rustic homes, and mercantile shops, is something I can never get enough of. My mind just runs wild perusing through these type of stores. I have dreams of living in an old farmhouse someday, but I am thinking that in reality, it will probably just be a dream. Regardless of what type of home I am living in, one thing I can dream about and actually do, is still decorate with a rustic style.
I am not one to spend oodles of money on decorating. In fact, I sometimes feel that decorations just take up needed space and end up cluttering a home. Every piece of decor in our home holds a purpose or meaning behind it. If there isn’t one, it will not take up residence in our home.
One item that I have always loved and found so much use for, are mason jars. My 21 Uses for Mason Jars post offers numerous and unique ways you can use mason jars to decorate your home. And if you need to use one for canning? Just wash it up and it will be ready to go!
I always dreamed of storing my baking ingredients in mason jars. I thought about using my quart mason jars, but some recipes call for 4 cups of flour, which is the majority of the jar! I did not want to spend all this time refilling them every time I baked. Then I discovered the Ball Half Gallon Wide Mouth Jars! Of course I didn’t want to pay full price for them, so I went on the trusty Wayfair website and lo and behold, found exactly what I wanted, while saving a few bucks in the process!
What I like about the half gallon jars is that you can display them in a decorative fashion, but also practically use them at the same time. Below I have my cocoa, flour, chocolate chips, sugar, and brown sugar stored in them. The wide mouth is definitely ideal because you can still fit your hand inside, if the ingredient is getting low, without spilling everything trying to get your hand out.
