Simple Living: What I Am Not
Paging through magazines, looking through the latest sales ad, listening to your friends talk about the latest and greatest “thing” they just bought.
Ever look in that magazine or scroll through that blog and wish your home looked like it was straight out of House Beautiful or Country Living?
I have my days. But more often than not, that is not who I want to be.
I have a desire to live a simple life. An organized life. An organized life with less.
I sometimes get the impression that people think we live in a house that is straight out of a magazine because I enjoy writing about being organized and living simply.
I hate to break it to you, but we do not. That is not who I want to be.
Everything in our house has a place. If it does not, I will sure find one.
Granted right now we are renting, but at our old house (which we still own), it was far from picture perfect. But it was made up of the simple things. Almost all of the furniture was either hand-me-downs, bought for pennies second hand, a gift, or free. We do not spend 100s of dollars on home decor because that is something we choose to not spend a lot of our money on. What makes our house a home is living out our desires for what we want a home to be.
I am not about buying the latest and greatest. I am not about buying that new rug or chair to make sure everything matches perfectly. I am not about perfection. I am about practical.
As much as I love DIY, I will not go out of my way or spend money I did not intend to spend, just to do a DIY project. As you can see, my blog is not filled with DIY projects – there will be some. But I am not about buying supplies for something that will just take up precious space that I could use for something else. I am not about making something only for my own glorification in being able to say “I made that.”
I am not subscribed to every home decor, organizing, and simple life magazine out there because the images they often portray, I do not want to be. I want to be Kristin. I am not one who is pursuing the magazine cover dream. I do not want YOU, to think that you need to live that life either.
I am not this obsessive organized person who has it all together. Don’t get the wrong impression. I am just ordinary Kristin, seeking to live a simple life and writing about it.
A perfect home? A perfect life? Far from it.
That is why everyday, I try to talk about PRACTICAL ways that you can live an organized life with less. I am not someone who is going to tell you that you are doing it all wrong. That is up to you. I am here to offer suggestions and ideas on how to live a life of less.
Who do YOU want to be?
If you ever have questions about my life or how we live, feel free to comment or send me an email! I would love to hear from you!
Thanks Kathy! Thank you for taking the time to comment and I so agree – "meeting" others who are striving for simplicity, not complexity, is encouraging! I like what you said about not decorating to get recognition – I might have to use that concept! There is so much truth behind that. I hope you continue to find encouragement and inspiration and thanks for stopping by!
