Simple Uses For Everyday Items: Cans
Whenever I think of canned food, I think of “lasts forever.” Why I don’t know (probably because canned food really does last a long time), but have you ever thought about reusing the can? Often times we think canned food is so easy to cook and then recycle the packaging. What if we made the cans last as long as the food did?
There are many uses for tin/aluminum cans – uses that you may have never thought of before. Next time you think about recycling that can, think about what you may be able to use it for.
1. Decorate a can with paint, paper, wallpaper, or whatever you have in the house, and use it as a stand for a plant. Or you can put a plate on top of the can and rest something else on it.
2. Make a decorative office supply holder either using them individually or glue a couple together. To get really fancy, decorate them prior to with color-coordinating paper and have a stylish organizer.
3. Keep a can around to pour grease into from your hamburgers, bacon, or whatever gives you a lot of grease.
4. Keep cardtables from separating by putting the legs in cans – that way food won’t slip in between the cracks!
5. Protect newly seeded plants by cutting out both ends and putting the can over the plant.
6. Use cans to organize your bolts, nuts, screws, etc. in the workshop. You can also label the cans using a sharpie so that you can always find what you need!
