Super Bowl Party Tips and Ideas
The Super Bowl is just around the corner and you know what that means!
Party time!
Being an American, I find it almost comical at how seriously we take Super Bowl Sunday. It has almost gotten to the point that it is classified as another “holiday” in the sense that when you walk into the grocery store, they have designated areas for football Sundays (especially around the Super Bowl). After Christmas, families take a little break, then prepare for the next big event – the Super Bowl.
Are you planning a Super Bowl party? We have attended and helped host our fair share of Super Bowl parties. Most of them being with our youth group kids, which means lots of food and…lots of food. For many, just the sheer desire to get together with friends and eat some good food, is what draws people together on this Super Bowl Sunday. Maybe Super Bowl means a SUPER bowl of delicious soup! For some, it is almost a whole day event. It may mean getting decked out in your favorite team’s gear, painting your face, wearing a crazy hat to represent, or maybe it means putting on your comfy clothes at 3:00pm and heading over to some friends for a night of games and fun. Whatever your reasoning may be, food (and overindulging), fun, and fellowship are always win-win combinations!
I have compiled a list of Super Bowl Party Tips and Ideas to make your party a success!
1. Use disposable dishes. This may be the only event where disposables are assumed, so take advantage of it! Depending on your menu, you may even be able to get away with disposable utensils as well!
2. Have a potluck. Tell your guests to bring their favorite appetizer to pass. This often offers the most variety of food and rarely do you have doubles of something!
3. More creative food ideas:
- Chili or soup cook-off. Have your guests bring their favorite chili or soup recipe. Have little slips of paper by each soup and have your guests rank their favorites. Consider having smaller bowls available so guests can taste test. The prize? A restaurant gift card.
- Taco bar – tacos are typically a fan favorite with most only because they are so versatile.
- Make a “dip” bar with different types of salsas, cheeses, or guacamole dips for nachos.
- Finger foods – less clean up! Think pretzels, toothpick foods such as meatballs, cheese/meat/crackers, wings, chips, etc.
4. To spice up the party in those awkward social moments, play Super Bowl trivia. During a lull, ask a trivia question and whoever guesses first, gets to sit in the best seat in the house.
5. Have your guests rate the commercials and see which one was the biggest hit at the end.
6. You may have guests who could care less about the football game, so have board games available for those who want to watch/play a different type of game.
7. Have a competition for the “Best Dressed” fan!
8. Since most kids have school the next day, if your guests leave before the game is early, do not take it personally. Remember the game may be more about the fellowship than about the game itself. So…HAVE FUN!
Whether you get together with friends and family to watch the Super Bowl or not, these tips can be used for any big sporting event that you may be hosting.
Happy planning!
