Teachable Moments
Whether you are a parent, grandparent, or are simply around kids, I’m sure you’ve thought about this phrase: teachable moment. That time when a child does something and you want to call them out on it in frustration, but want to do so in a graceful way, you see it as a more “teachable moment” – a time to teach a lesson.
Well, you know what? I think that’s exactly what God does with us. He already knows all of the events that are going to effect our lives, and God never lets anything go to waste. So I think he uses every moment as a teachable moment.
There are lessons to be learned in every season of life – whether a thriving or challenging season. And are we willing to slow down long enough to pay attention to the lessons God might be trying to teach us through that moment?
I think it almost goes without saying that the times when I’ve grown the most is when God has most challenged my faith through a difficult season. But are we willing to see it? Are we willing to learn what God is trying to teach us, without complaint, but with open eyes and faith and trust in him?
I want to be someone who is teachable. I want to be someone who is wise. And the only way to do that is to have an open heart and to recognize that I can always learn something. That I will forever have room to grow. That I will always need to rely on Christ to soften my heart long enough to be teachable.
Are you teachable? Are you willing to listen to how God might be using others or moments in your life, to keep you moldable? Until the day we see Jesus face to face, we are never done learning and growing. Don’t ever stop.
I love this, Kristin! Sometimes those of us on up in she think we’ve got it all together, that we’ve learned all we need to know. That’s when we run the golf cart of our lives into a sand trap! Working with younger moms in MOPS taught me so much about dedication, drive, resourcefulness…on and on. God help me to stay teachable and pliable and to remember that lessons can come from anywhereYou choose.
Oh how I’d love to be a part of your MOPS group :)! Oh the wisdom you impart to them all I’m sure. They are blessed to have you! I agree, may we all stay teachable and pliable. So well said! God gives us every day to learn and to glean from those he puts into our paths. So thankful for that!
