Waiting – Contradictory to What Culture Says…
Today I was listening to Pandora while I was working on our family’s geneaology. The song “Wait” came on by Lecrae, one of my most FAV Christian rap artists. I started to really listen to the lyrics and realized that this song is SO contradictory to the rap out there today. It almost brought tears to my eyes because it was so refreshing to hear a song about saving sex til marriage. That is one thing that Dan and I both feel so passionate about and honestly beg our kids to just “wait.” Wait for everything – don’t save just part of you. Save all of you. We have had kids ask us some pretty personal questions, but we are more than happy to tell them the truth and how important and rewarding it is to wait. The term “everybody is doing it” seems to ring through our kids’ ears and we just pray that God will help them protect their purity and protect their hearts! So ead the lyrics as you listen to this song to let is sink in:
I think there are MANY lines that really contradict what our culture says:
– If he ain’t following Christ, he can’t lead you
– compromising your faith for sex, hurting yourself and God, cause you outside the marital context
-you giving a guy, everything your husband deserves
– So even if it feels right remember, he ain’t pleased with us, when we let our emotions loose without a ring on the finger; it’s only gonna come back and sting ya
– Don’t let the singers sing you sweet lullabies
– You know this ain’t the man for you but you hold on like God ain’t got better plans for you
-Don’t follow your feelings…wait
Again, I just think this song speaks so powerfully and is so refreshing. I feel like saving sex for marriage is a subject that isn’t talked about much either. I feel like it’s one of those hush hush things. I think it’s something parents need to talk to their kids about WAY more in this day and age. I think it’s something parents need to be HONEST with their kids about – that it’s NOT easy. But it is WORTH the wait! I think it’s something we as Christians need to talk openly about. We talk about needing to read the Bible more, pray more, serve God more, but why can’t we talk about “waiting” more? Is it because we are worried about what others think? Are we worried that people will judge us? And then the question is, what if it’s too late? Too late for what? Too late to turn around? That is why God has given us ALL the opportunity for repentance. We just have to choose repentance. We all sin. We all sin incredibly. But God graciously offers forgiveness – he already bore that sin on the cross. It is NOT too late to turn around and WAIT.
Whoever you are, whatever age you may be, do not hesitate to mentor young men and women on this subject. Give them encouragement. Pray for them. Pray for your children’s purity. We are all in this together!
