We Are In This Together
I had to laugh.
As I was walking through Wal-Mart and Target the other day around mid-morning, every person I saw was either of the older generation or young moms. Moms carrying their babies in the carriers, holding one child and pushing the cart with the other hand, or just trying to make sure their child doesn’t take everything off the racks. It made me laugh.
Though I would fit into the later category I must say.
As I passed mom after mom, we all smiled at each other with that smile that said “yup, you trying to quickly shop and get it all done too?” We knew we were all in it together.
It didn’t matter if our kids were fussing. If one started, well, there was always another kid the aisle over doing the same thing. If someone was starting to cry, well, there was no need to worry because every other kid in that store would eventually hit their breaking point too.
I saw a little girl come running down an aisle with the mom runking (that’s the running-walking pace) after her with the girl’s sister on her hip. I thought to myself “oye, she will have a busy day!” Then I saw them in another aisle and the girls were begging to get toys. I thought to myself “that’s going to be an expensive trip.” But it didn’t matter. All us moms with young kids were all there for the same purpose.
To get our errands done with minimal amount of money spent and minimal amounts of crying.
Outings are always thrilling and interesting. Mazy LOVES to say hi to people passing by and comment about the items on the shelves. Then she might see something in her diaper bag, but want to sit in the actually cart itself, even though technically on the seat it says they shouldn’t. But I have to admit, Mazy does – either it’s tears or the cart. I chose the cart.
Mazy did great, even when she wanted to exercise her legs and walk. She likes to “push” the cart herself, which gives her great exercise I suppose! Thanks to Target who gives out dog stickers to the youngins. I am not sure how I would check out in one piece without that sticker. And without having to put an entire convenience shelf back together. Love that little girl! She typically makes every cashier laugh in some way! And me too.
And I just have one child.
So to all of those moms out there who wonder if you are the only ones, you are not. If you want to feel some comfort, shop mid-morning at those stores and you will feel like one of us. You will realize we are all in this together. I must admit too, I keep a closer eye on kids around me b/c just in case a mama needs a hand, we can help each other.
Because indeed, we are all in this together.
