When It May Not Be God’s Will…But So Much More
If someone says my name, you may associate me with “the girl who has heart problems”. And you know what? You’re exactly right. I’ve been walking with official heart failure since 2017, though my heart struggles began the day I was born. God just didn’t open our eyes to my congenital heart defect until I was 17. But it doesn’t lessen his purposes or His glory.
Even When We Don’t, God Understands
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Do you ever feel alone in your pain? Do you ever feel like God has just left ya out there to dry? Kind of like a, “Hello, God? Ya still there?” God understands our pain like no one else that has ever lived. Just think about that! Think about experiencing a crucifixion, and I know for me, it reminds that Kristin, it’s going to be okay. Jesus knew His suffering was going to be intense, but that it was also with purpose. To some, God has given immense health and wealth. To others, he has given pain and suffering. But these circumstances, don’t come from a far-off God who doesn’t care. These circumstances are allowed by an all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful, all-loving God, who knows that His will and His eternal purposes are far greater than anything here on this earth. God allows the enemy to do some pretty crazy things that just do not make sense. But don’t you think that even in the chaos, that those moments are also part of His will? Ultimately, His goal is to draw His people closer to Him, but in reality, many will walk further away from Him. We have to remember that God allows the enemy to what He does, like bringing death and illness into our lives, to prove His strength and power. Let’s not lose sight that even when we don’t understand, God does. He’s got the whole picture, my friends. What could be more comforting than that?
It Just May Not Be God’s Will
Do I wish that my heart failure would just be “poof”, gone? Absolutely. Maybe it’s just not God’s will though. God allows sickness in believers to show His strength and power, not just in healing, but by giving them what they need in their time of pain and struggle. He proves Himself to be the sustainer. The mysterious will of God is so hard to comprehend this side of heaven, but one thing we can boast in, is Christ and His power on the cross. Unexplained pain and suffering is hard to understand, but God is always working out his eternal purposes through His grace and because of that, healing just may not be part of God’s will.
So when we pray, may it not just be for healing, but for God’s will to be done and for His character to be revealed through the pain. May we pray for His glory to be revealed, His character to become more clear, and for His power to be made known through us. May we remember that even if it isn’t His will, that it’s often SO much more, and that we are privileged to be a part of the “more”.
