Who Says?
As a parent, have you ever had your child say, “Mom, MOm, MOOOMMM” and you seriously do not hear them, until they pull out the first name, “KRISTIN!”
Yes, honey?
Too many times.
Not that I’m trying to ignore my daughter or have selective hearing, but what I’ve gathered is that there are so many “voices” to listen to, that I confuse which ones I should be REALLY listening to and end up drowning out the ones I shouldn’t
Do you ever feel that way?
Even though my life has been a bit slower in pace, the voices have never been louder. And they are becoming deafening. I mute the wrong ones and let them scream. And I mean SCREAM at me, to the point that I start to allow it to change my worldview. Fear slowly creeps in, stress levels rise, all in the name of listening to the wrong voices.
I have heard it said countless times, “I just don’t know what to believe anymore.” You too? The media is telling us one thing. An acquaintance another. A pastor yet another. TOO MANY VOICES. And in this day and age, we’ve never been more filled with them. I’ve contemplated going back to the rotary phone and unplugging the internet so that I can more easily focus on the Person I should be focusing on. Ya feel me?
So let me ask…
Who said we have to have it all figured out?
Who said we have to have the answer to everything?
Who said you have to look a certain way?
Who said you have to be “this” size to look good?
Who said you have to wear “this” to fit in?
Who said you have to own “this” to have it all?
Who said you have to live “this” way to have a good life?
Who said you have to make “this” amount to be comfortable?
Who said you have to jump on “this” bandwagon or you aren’t…
Who said you have to do this or else…
WHO SAID?
And the one thing we all have to answer is: WHO SAID?
What is the answer? WHO?
Amidst the 1,000s of voices coming at both ears, in the end, did GOD say dot, dot, dot…
What matters most is this: Is the answer in line with his character? Would God approve? Would God say it? Would God expect it? Is it going to matter when you meet Him face-to-face?
Forget the who said, my friend. What matters most is what God thinks and what God expects. If you aren’t sure, ask him! I know you may be thinking, oh, he’s not going to answer me. Well, actually he is because that is WHO God is! Maybe not in the way you expected and it may be in a whisper. In the silence. But that is why it is important to silence every other voice and listen to the One whose voice truly matters.
Because in the end, it’s ALL that will matter.
