On A Mission
While sitting outside on a Sunday afternoon, I was catching up on my Bible study, when a squirrel came sauntering up to my chair. I kid you not, it came about a 1 1/2 feet away from me, stood up on its hind legs, mouth full with an acorn, and staring at me for about 3 seconds. I wasn’t sure if it was going to jump on me, but I think it realized I was human, and scurried off. I wasn’t his first choice!
I was reading the book, Social Media Reset: A 30-Day Guided Journey, (this is an EXCELLENT Bible study book!) when, this unfazed that I was a human, squirrel came up to me. I was in the middle of reading this line: “What would the world look like with you fully alive on a mission?” I couldn’t help but sit and think about that moment. I started chuckling inside, but then pondered that phrase: “fully alive on a mission”. That squirrel was doing just that. It was on a mission. Probably to bury deep, the acorn in his mouth, but wasn’t letting anything stop him from doing so, standing straight up to see what’s ahead, with confidence, and on a mission.
That is ALL of our stories. We are ALL on a mission – both believers and unbelievers. It’s just that our end goals are different (or should be). When I think about that squirrel, and how confidently it walked through life, carrying out its mission, I am challenged to do that same.
Dan and I used to watch Charlie Kirk at night here and there, soaking in his ability to stand up for truth in a beautiful way. After his passing, we’ve continued to watch his clips and his memorial, allowing it to challenge us to stand with the same boldness he preached the gospel with. With the same boldness Marco Rubio preached the gospel with at the memorial. With the same boldness Erika Kirk preached about forgiveness, the establishment of family, marriage, and parenting. Boldness that has inspired us to do the same.
For our family devotions, we are reading a book called, “Courageous World Changers: 50 True Stories of Daring Women of God.” I HIGHLY recommend this book, as they are women who chose to follow God, even in the littlest of details and decisions, but ended up changing the world. Some of the women I’ve heard of, some not. Many whom you’d never hear about, unless their story was in this book. One small decision impacted the world, as they lived fully alive on a mission.
I like to ask Mazy thought-provoking questions and once asked her, what her dream was? She said, “Mom, I want to be one of those 50 courageous women in that book someday.” I started to tear up, stood up, held her face in my hands, looked through her eyes and into her heart, and proclaimed: “GO BE ONE OF THEM”.
Mazy challenged me to be like that squirrel. To be like those who have gone before us, standing up for their faith. To be someone who is inspired by those who God used to shape His Kingdom. Our goal shouldn’t to necessarily be published in a book, but to be on a mission for God.
Remember this: we are no different than the people I’ve talked about in this post. We are created by the SAME GOD with the SAME MISSION – to glorify God. How we do that, just looks different. What are you boldly willing to do for Him? “What would the world look like with you fully alive on a mission?“
That’s the question I continue to ponder as well. It may not be ONE specific thing, but a culmination of ALL the little decisions we have to make every day, CHOOSING to CHOOSE HIM. Each and every moment.
