Be Who GOD Created You To Be.

There is a common thought in the world today: Be whoever you want to be. You just be you. You just do you. You be whatever you feel like. Whenever you’d like.
Being in youth ministry for the past 20 years, my husband and I have walked alongside countless students who are deciphering what they are supposed to do with their life. It’s a valid question and concern! The pressures are SO HIGH – make “X” amount of money and then you’ll be successful. Go into this, and you’ll be set for life. It’s all about the almighty dollar. Yet at the age of 18, all of a sudden they are “supposed” to have it all figured out – really?
But herein lies the problem. We are looking for the “right” job, when in reality, we should be seeking something much different.
A relationship with God FIRST.
Our calling isn’t to land the “perfect job” or make “X” amount of dollars. It is ultimately to seek GOD FIRST. Our relationship with God should be our ultimate desire. It’s a Person we should be pursuing, not necessarily the perfect job. And when we seek God first, everything else falls into place.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Yes, it is that straightforward. Yes, it is that Biblical. Yes, it is that simple. When we delight in the Lord, He will GIVE us the DESIRES of our hearts.
When our lives are aligned with His, with His desires, His ways, His footsteps, and our feet are covered in His dust, we will undoubtedly become the people He has called us to be. It’s all about becoming a daily disciple of HIM, when our lives come into focus.
It’s not about us. It’s not about our desires. It’s about Him first. And once we have that figured out, He will bring us to places we never imagined and where we can then influence people for Him. So first we are called to Christ, then we are called to a people – to share about this Person in whom we believe, with those around us. Where that is, isn’t as important as WHO we are representing when we go into these places.
If you follow the ways of this world, you WILL get lost. It’s a guarantee. Because that is not what we are created for. We are created to be who GOD created us to be – and that’s to be in relationship with Him. THEN take that intimate relationship and spread it to others in a job or career you are passionate about.
My friend, be who GOD created you to be – for that’s the safest, most rewarding, place to be.
