Day 37: Rags vs. Paper Towels
What: Rags vs. Paper towels.
Why: Such a trivial way to live with less, isn’t it? This may be so. But it is just another way we need to think about how we live. Lets face it. Paper towels are cheap – you can get a big ole bundle for $5.00-$8.00. Have you thought about an alternative to paper towels? Paper towels are still garbage. In one cleaning session, you could really go through quite a few! Here is some food for thought.
How:
1. Think about how often you go through a roll of paper towels. What if you used an old rag instead?
2. Ask:
- Would an old rag do the same job as a paper towel?
- Do you use paper towels strictly for convenience sake?
3. Consider switching from paper towels to rags. Give it a try. For those jobs that you could use either, try using a rag. They are easy to wash and do not clog up our garbage cans with garbage that could be prevented.
Confession of the Day: I use paper towels to clean mirrors. I use paper towels for other random things. I have not gotten rid of paper towels altogether. What I have learned, is that i was going through a LOT of paper towels to clean our floors or bathrooms, when all I needed to do was use ONE rag, that I could continually wash and rinse out when it got dirty. Sure saved on a lot of garbage! This is just another way to live with less – even in our garbage cans!
