DIY Makeup Remover
For about the past 5 years, I have been using a DIY makeup remover, that still to this day, I absolutely LOVE. It is all-natural, uses all oils (strange, I know, if you want to CLEAN your face), but if using a product for 5 years says anything, I think it’s worth a try!
My homemade concoction consists of olive oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, and a Vitamin E oil. So why all the oils? Aren’t we looking to REMOVE oils when we wash our faces and remove makeup? Well, let me break it down for you:
- Olive oil – even though we often think of this products as only being used in the kitchen, this antioxidant oil is also soothing for sensitive skin and acts as the base for the makeup remover.
- Castor oil – this oil removes impurities (prevents acne) from the skin and gives the skin a deep and thorough clean, while also reducing inflammation.
- Jojoba oil – this is a plant seed oil that moisturizes, maintains elasticity of the skin, and improves skin texture. It is suitable for all skin types, but if yours is especially dry like mine is, you’ll want to use this!
- Vitamin E oil – this one may surprise you, but did you know Vitamin E helps fade discoloration like acne scars, stretch marks, and even helps with scars, while evening out skin tones? It also helps prevent dry skin and aids in conditions like psoriasis and eczema, AND helps prevent aging of the skin.
I don’t know about you, but there isn’t anything listed that I DON’T want for my skin! This girl is only getting older and the wrinkles, the dryness, the everything is starting to happen. I have always had VERY dry skin and only increased with medications. Since using this remover, I have had little to no issues with dryness on my face, even after chemo!
So enough about WHAT this DIY remover is…here’s is what you’ll need and how I make it:
- 1 bottle (can use a pump bottle, or any plastic or glass bottle)
- Olive Oil
- Castor Oil
- Jojoba Oil
- Vitamin E
- Fill bottle 1/2 full of olive oil.
- Add the castor oil, which should be a 1/3 of the mixture.
- Pour in equal parts jojoba and vitamin E oils.
- Shake and use.
Like I said earlier, I use it as a makeup remover and it removes it ALL. It can also just be used as a cleanser, even if you don’t have makeup on. Every night while showering (I keep mine in the shower), I pour a little on my fingers (I should upgrade to a pump bottle), rub it on my eyes and face, then use a warm washcloth to wipe off the smeared makeup. It works EVERY TIME. I can’t recall a time ever of getting out of the shower and having makeup around my eyes still. Maybe because I perfected the system, but it works that well. You could also use this method if you are a morning shower person. At night, just follow all the steps and have a warm wash cloth ready to wipe away the already removed makeup.
What is your go-to makeup remover product? Do you use something similar?
Again, I LOVE this method because it is all-natural, easy to make (my little plastic bottle lasts me months), it gets the job done, AND my skin feels clean.
You might be thinking, but I HAVE oily skin, how does this help? The castor oil draws out the impurities and if your skin is too dry, it’ll only create more oils. So you might as well nourish your skin with healthy and rich oils to enhance the beauty of your skin. This method helps balance out the oils and infiltrates your skin with the good oils.
