Getting Off Track
I have a love/hate relationship with Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road. As a kid, I played the N64 version of Rainbow Road at my cousin’s house, which was always my request.
We aren’t necessarily up-to-date with video gaming at our house, but a Wii will do, right? It’s old, but it works like a charm! Mario Kart was a must and I always beg my family to play Rainbow Road with me. But who always comes in last? ME. Every. Single. Time.
If you haven’t played any version of Rainbow Road before, basically it is a moving, multi-colored road with very few guardrails. The obvious goal is to get to the finish line first after 3 laps, requiring you to go full-send in hopes of coming out on top. So Kristin goes full-fledge, pedal to the metal, and falls off the edge more times than my hands can count.
Why? Because at the speed I’m going, I get way off track and need to get “rescued” from falling off the edge and put back on the road.
Do you ever feel this way in life? With the speed you are operating at, will you eventually go off the road or direction you want to go, and wonder what in the world happened? And need someone to put you back on the straight and narrow?
That is me. I can get in the mindset that busyness = effectiveness. Doing it all = a successful day. And at the end of the day, my wheels are riding the edge of the road and all I can hope is that my wheels don’t feel off.
And who is the only one who can put me back on the straight and narrow safely? Jesus.
We think we can run on full energy, all day, every day, going full speed ahead, expecting to stay on the road. But at some point, our wheels start squealing, we start spinning out, and at times, hit the guardrail, and may even fall off. I’m going to guess that it’s not if, but WHEN this happens, we often run to the quick fixes. Food. Social media. Shopping. TV. The mindless things that have no intention on keeping us on the right path. THE ONLY THING that can get us back on track is Jesus and His Word.
So what speed are you racing through life at? Are you getting off track easily? If so, who or what do you run to? Make it Jesus. Always.
