In The Stillness…
Random thought (as if I don’t already have enough of those)………
Have you ever thought about what you learn about life in the stillness?
This afternoon Dan and I were sitting in the same room. He fell asleep and I was crocheting. I found myself just looking at him and thinking my oh my, how much I love him! I know, cut the cheese Kristin, but seriously. Have you ever felt such a “peace” inside, that life just feels right, even though it may be a little hectic? I had that moment this afternoon. Dan opened his eyes and was probably wondering why in the world I was staring at him (I would), but it seemed to not phase him – he’s used to my weirdness.
What does being still mean to you? In the Bible it says “be still and know that I am God.” In the song “I Want To Know You” there is a line that says – In the stillness you are there.”
Can you feel God in the stillness of life? Do you take time to be still and recognize WHO God is?
I sure do not take enough time to be still. To listen. To just be. Do you ever wake up in the morning and just listen to the birds? Listen to what is around you? Do you ever turn off the radio in the car and just let life happen? I know sometimes when I am at home alone, I will blare Pandora radio, but then I think, what happened to the silence?
Where is that place where you can go and feel stillness? Do you have to travel across the country to feel it, or do you have a place you can go daily? For me, it is sitting in our brown chair, with the footrest up, an afghan over my legs, with my Bible in my lap. I am overcome with the peace of God when I take time to do that. Of course I have to get my mind in the right place, but it always comes.
Other places I can remember feeling such a sense of stillness in life – Cumberland Island, Georgia; the lagoon on Hunting Island, SC; Shipshewana – driving down the less-traveled roads; running down by the beach with not a soul around; on a lake fishing with Dan.
These are just a few examples. Of course there are others, but these are the ones that have stuck out to me.
Find that stillness this week. Seek OUT the STILLNESS OF GOD. God wants to give it to you and He is ready – we just have to be willing to take the time to receive it.
Boy I sure have a lot of work to do in this area too…
