My 5 Favorite Things On Friday – Edition #15
Mazy LOVES books! Almost every single day, we sit down for those few precious minutes, reading books. She has her go-to books every week, but then there are those that she repeatedly picks up, every single week. When I realized how much she loved books as a little girl, I decided to get a few more books for her by becoming an Usborne consultant. Best decision!! The books that she continually picks up to read before naptime or bedtime, are those books. I know that books are an investment in a child and I take that to heart.
Now I know some kids just do not like to sit down and read. I completely get that because I was THAT kid. I didn’t have the attention span nor did I care. Though, looking back, even though I would barely last two seconds on my mom’s lap, I still had my favorites too. If you have a child who doesn’t like to read, don’t give up. Even if you just look at the pictures, it’s okay. Even if they just create the story for you without you being able to get a word in, it’s okay. Keep going. Keep books in your home! It WILL be worth it and they WILL remember those books.
So I wanted to share a handful of Mazy’s favorite books:
Who’s Ready To Play? We read this book multiple times a day! At first glance it seems like a strange books, but it is very interactive. It asks simple questions like “Who’s taking a nap?” or “Who’s ready to play?” And each page, something is different about the animals that are doing those actions, even though every page has the exact same animals on it. It’s a great brain activity book and even though Mazy has memorized the answers, she still loves it!
There’s A Mouse About The House – Looking for a fun story that will keep your child engaged the entire time? This book has a little mouse that you slip through the slits on the pages, to help the mouse through the story. It’s pretty funny where the mouse ends up!
Secrets Of The Rain Forest – Shine-A-Light – This book requires a flashlight to truly enjoy it to it’s fullest! Each page, the reader can shine a flashlight from behind the page, to reveal was is hidden in the rain forest. Mazy enjoys doing this so much that she now uses masking tape to tape a piece of computer paper to her flashlight, to mimic the book!
Lift And Look Trains – Mazy loves trains, so I figured a lift-the-flap book would be a bit with her! Sure enough, she LOVES it! There is a little teddy bear that she has to find on each page too, and even though she has again memorized where the teddy is, she still enjoys opening each flap.
Very First Book Of Things To Spot – Mazy likes “seek and find” books. Always has! Well, this book is simple enough, asks numerous questions about where something is on each page, and also helps a child decipher subtle changes. This book is durable and is a great traveling book too!
