My Times are in Your Hands
Psalm 31: 14-15a
But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands
I trust in You.
Have you ever thought about what trust means? What it means to you? If you trust someone, what qualities do they have that make you trust them?
My times are in Your hands – that for me, is a definition of TRUST.
Do I really believe that?
God has been testing that in our life, what seems like over and over again. We are so eager to get back into ministry someday – that day, we have no idea when it will be. We feel ready. We believe God has a place for us somewhere. A place He is preparing for us. My times are in YOUR hands.
When we were waiting to rent our house, we were praying it would be before December. Thanksgiving weekend, our house was rented. My times are in YOUR hands.
For many months we were awaiting the time when God would knit together embryos. We prayed for two. He created two. We prayed for a healthy transfer. God provided a positive pregnancy test. Just 3 short weeks later, our babies were no longer here on earth with us. My times are in YOUR hands.
For months we did not understand why we were put through such a test of defending embryo adoption. To this day, we still believe in it and promote it. Though we have not participated in it, it has cost us more than we ever thought. My times are in YOUR hands.
We never expected for Dan to lose his job in the way he has. To be fired over things we do not have a clear understanding about. My times are in YOUR hands.
To be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family in a time when so much felt out of control. My times are in YOUR hands.
It is a daily choice that we have to wake up to – whether to trust God with our life or not. We can choose to take life into our own hands, but that only leads to worry, stress, and freak-out moments. But a life marked by trust, is represented by a life lived in belief that our times are truly in His hands and He will not let us go. God IS our God. We do not understand all that has occured, but we live in peace knowing that our life/time is in HIS control. Boy do we want life to speed up sometimes so that we know the future. That is wishing something of God that He is not willing to give us yet. Trusting Him with our times, means letting Him take the steering wheel.
There have been so many times where I have wanted to be the passenger in God’s car and just grab the steering wheel. I am not one of the “sit quietly in the backseat” type of people (just ask Dan). I like to KNOW. I like to know where we are going, what we will be doing, and for how long. But if God is the driver, and I truly believe He is in my life, I need to let Him drive. I need to stop fighting Him for the steering wheel and let HIM drive. This is something I am continually learning daily! It’s a process and I am still in it :).
MY TIMES ARE IN YOUR HANDS.
