Our New Niece!
Friday morning we became aunt and uncle to another beautiful niece, Scarlett Lauren (born to Kari and Matt)!
Some have wondered how we would felt with my sister having a baby. Thoughts of our own children will always be there. Though, we were so thrilled to hear the news of a healthy baby girl! When we visited, walking into the hospital, I was a little apprehensive and found myself asking a lot of questions – purely because I cared. I held Scarlett and she didn’t like the idea of getting passed off, so she was crying. That was when it became hard. I gladly gave her up to my other sister. My mind often went to “the could’ve beens” but truly, I treasure each of our nieces and nephews. For now, they fulfill that void – seeing babies is hard b/c it reminds us of what we lost, but we just see each baby as so precious. Everytime I hear of a healthy birth, my heart leaps for joy because I realize how much of a miracle it truly is. Nothing else matters – the birth of a baby is a miracle.
There were moments that if I let my emotions take control, tears would’ve fallen, but there really was so much joy! Scarlett is a child of God, nothing short of a miracle, and born into a family that loves her. After going through what we have, God has softened our heart for births – not that it makes it easy, but not ever getting to that point, it makes us realize what a blessing each child is. We cherish them. We cherish ours. Oh how we would’ve LOVED to hold our twins. To hear them coo. To hear them cry. We used to dream about what the delivery room would look like when our children were born. Though those dreams will forever be thoughts, we are thankful that we were given the opportunity to dream. To be a mom and dad. Though not physically here on earth, but in our hearts and minds.
And we are so blessed to be an aunt and uncle to 10 nieces and nephews. We take that role very seriously :). Children are such a beautiful gift from God and we are blessed to welcome another one into our greater family!
