Who Needs An Ice Rink?
Back in Michigan, we lived directly across from an ice skating rink. We knew we HAD to buy ice skates – kind of a rite of passage. Even though we only went about once a year (sad, I know…), we were always thankful we at least owned skates.
Then we move to Minnesota – what I would deem the state of hockey.
There is an outdoor ice rink in our small town and last night, as the rain started to fall, we decided to be a little adventurous and throw on our boots and check out the rink. No, that is not a type-o: it really was raining, but froze immediately as it hit the ground. The rink was a little rough in spots with rain, but…
We went to bed excited, that maybe, just MAYBE, we would be able to ice skate on the roads in the morning.
AND…
We couldn’t have asked for a better ice rink! We ended up ice skating around the whole neighborhood for about an hour and a half. We just couldn’t stop! How often do you get to ICE skate around your town! There were a few spots that were rough and snow would stop us dead in our tracks, but we never fell! We just laughed, had a blast, and tried a few tricks or two (mine, not so successful).
We may have gotten a few weird looks or so, but we knew we had to take advantage of this opportunity! Our roads are quiet enough where we could skate in the middle and it was windy enough when we were skating south, that it just pushed us along and we were moving as fast as the cars were. Why not, right?
Now we brace ourselves for the drop in temps and record-breaking wind chills! Had to take advantage of the positive temperatures one last time before another artic blast!

As kids we would ice skate on the gravel driveway when it got to be sub zero and icy! I'm glad that you and Dan had so much fun.
