How To Freeze Green Beans

Do you ever wonder what to do with the abundance of green beans that you have?

I know that every single year, we always have way more beans than we can eat fresh, so I always come down to the question: to can or freeze?

Often I answer with this question by thinking about how much TIME I have. Canning beans, though I enjoy doing it, is time consuming – more so than freezing. That is why so far this year, I have resorted to freezing. I thought why not share these simple tips on how to freeze green beans?

Start by washing/rinsing off your green beans. Who knows what has landed on them while in the garden!

Boil water in a pan until it is rolling. Add your green beans and BLANCH for 3 minutes (which means boil for just a few minutes and then…)

*You will read that there are various suggestions on how long to blanch green beans – do what you feel comfortable doing

Immediately place them in a bowl of ice water and give them an ice water bath for 3 minutes.

Spread out on a towel or paper towel to allow to dry (to prevent freezer burn)

Place green beans in freezer bags and put in your freezer for use throughout the winter!

Thanks for sharing…so much easier to freeze than can, isn't it?? I used the same process freezing corn! Lately, we have an abundance of tomatoes so planning to "can" salsa on Monday with the help of hubby and kids! Happy End of the Summer- sure enjoy your posts!!

  Yes, it is so much easier to freeze! I enjoy canning, but sometimes just do not have the time for it, but I also have the freezer room too. We also froze lots of corn, but I would prefer it that way anyways. Good idea to round up the family and do it together – they will forever remember that :).
