The Brain Train

Have you ever considered how your brain is like a train? With every cart leading to the next, leading you in one direction?
I’m sure you’ve heard of the saying, “You are what you think”.
Let’s start the engine (here’s an example):
- You SEE an ad for a sweater.
- You start to THINK about it.
- You start to FEEL about it – “I like it, oh it would be SO cozy”
- You get EMOTIONAL about it – “I get excited thinking about it and I’m happy!”
- You take ACTION by looking for the sweater and you BUY it.
- You like the RESULT of those thoughts, feelings, and emotions about this action that it then becomes a…
- BELIEF.
SEEING=THINKING=FEELING=EMOTIONS=ACTION=RESULTS=BELIEF.
You’ve maybe heard this “train of thought” before, but look at how ONE thought, can create a belief system. A value system. It can even create an entire WORLDVIEW – the lens through which you see the world. That if I “just had what they have”, I would be content, joyful, and happy.
But have you ever thought about adding JESUS into this? What if we practiced retraining our brains to think about JESUS, the way we do with the things of this world?
Instead of mimicking our favorite Insta girl or account, friend, or what “everyone else is wearing”, we thought about JESUS and road that train? What if we spent as much mental energy on Jesus, as we did our phones, shopping, and thinking about the next “thing” we are going to buy?
What we are most passionate about is who or what we become.
Think about what you think about. Think about what you SEE in a day. What do you focus your eyes, your mental energy, and your time on? Because what you do, will eventually become what you believe. The brain train is no lie. Think about your life. Like I said earlier, “You are what you think.” Where is your brain train heading? What destination are you headed towards?
Think twice. And I know for me, I want that thought that I’m taking captive, to be about Jesus. Not me.
