So often, we think we need to do something “big” in order to make a difference in this world. But one simple act can change someone’s life.

Maybe you’ve read the book “Christmas Jars” by Jason Wright – a New York Times best-selling novel. Well, now this novel has become a movie! This movie tells the story of Hope Jensen, a newspaper writer, who receives an anonymous Christmas jar full of money. She sought out the story behind the Christmas jar in the name of her job, and in doing so, befriended an incredible family who ended being the originators of the Christmas Jar idea. After telling the family she was only a student, and not a reporter doing a feature about the Christmas jar, she risks losing the family’s trust. Through a serious of events, you will see that the one simple act of this family giving out Christmas jars, the meaning goes far beyond what’s in the jar. It has changed lives and has now created a national movement that would change the focus of Christmas.

I have to admit, I had to pause the movie and grab a Kleenex, while watching it. Granted, it’s your classic Christmas feel-good movie, but the message behind “Christmas Jars” sinks far deeper than it just being a movie that makes you love the Christmas season. It reminded me that Christmas isn’t about what we receive, but looking beyond ourselves and seeing the needs of those around us. You will walk away challenged to live with eyes wide open to the daily needs around us all and how one simple act can change someone’s life. Are we willing to take the time to make a difference – even in simple ways? I highly recommend seeing this one because the Christmas Jar story has been lived out in countless lives and after watching this movie, you too, will want to join the movement!
