God’s Purposes Prevailing
As I was doing my devotions the other day, I came across the passage from Proverbs 19:21:
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purposes that prevails.”
When I read that verse, I literally breathed a sigh of relief.
How many plans do you have? I sure know I have thoughts about how I would like things to go.
BUT, God’s purposes trump mine (thank goodness).
I think this verse is all about balance. Dan and I have talked a lot about being parents – like I mean A LOT! We think about different situations, what we would do, how we would react, etc. God’s purposes for us right now are to prepare our hearts to be parents.
We think we are preparing our hearts for a child through Brenda. That is the plan that God has brought before us. But for all we know, God is preparing our hearts for different kids or no kids at all. Only God knows.
And it is so comforting to think that God’s purposes prevail! A year ago, we were preparing our hearts for no kids. Now a year later we are preparing our hearts FOR kids. God’s purposes seem crazy sometimes, yet we know He has our best interest.
Dan and I often say that if this baby process doesn’t work, we know God has something even BETTER for us. It’s fun to tell people about what God is doing b/c it is completely God orchestrating everything.
Aren’t you thankful that God’s purposes prevail? That HE is sovereign? And we are not? It has taken all the incidences we have been through together (Dan and I) to make us the people we are today. Without them, we would not be where we are in our faith. We had many plans in our hearts when we got married 6 years ago. Boy do those plans look so different today.
And it has taken a lot of faith. Faith that is unexplainable at times. I find myself when talking about “baby stuff” that I sometimes don’t even know what to say. I literally am speechless (and for Kristin that is ODD). But it’s purely because God’s purposes are prevailing – we don’t always understand them, making them unexplainable at times. Dan and I believe that as long as we are obedient, God will lead US faithfully into HIS purposes.
