How To Make Homemade Frozen Pizzas
In our attempts to eat healthier, one thing that I have tried to do is take highly processed food items that I would normally buy, and try a homemade version instead.
The only problem is that it takes many tries of trial and error (often times, more error). That is why I want to take the time and share recipes that we really enjoy, in case you are trying to also eat less processed food and eat healthier. It may be more time consuming at the beginning, but I have realized how far the homemade version can go.
For instance, I have always wanted to make my own frozen pizzas. We used to eat Jack’s pizza, like it was going out of style, but then once we were introduced to the Aldi Take and Bake pizzas, we have never gone back. Even the take and bakes, I still feel are more processed than I would like, so I decided to try and create my own version. I did some searching on the internet and found an excellent crust that is very simple to make (adapted it from Favorite Freezer Foods). The only time consuming part is just waiting for the dough to rise.
This pizza dough recipe makes 2 pizza crusts. After the dough is ready to bake, I divide the dough into 2 equal pieces. I roll out one for supper that night, and wrap the other in plastic wrap and freeze for later use. In order to use the frozen one, I just take it out of the freezer, let it thaw for a few hours, roll it out, par-bake for 3 minutes at 500 degrees, put toppings on, and bake about 10 more minutes.
The recipe really is incredibly simple, but does not lack in taste! You would not guess that it is homemade, in my mind. Plus, we are just one step closer to eating less processed foods!
