Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
How beautiful God’s Word is! The word pictures – the description of His love for us. Nothing compares. You probably remember me talking about this psalm umpteen times, but it is because it is so near and dear to my heart, starting with my open heart surgery. My pastor at the time had read it to me the night before my surgery and since then, it has been a “life” passage (as they are often called). When it says God will keep me from all harm – I have struggled with that. What does He mean? I guess I have taken it to mean that I will never be let go from His care. He will ALWAYS have me under His wing, keeping us sheltered through the storms of life. No one can take away my salvation – it is secure in Christ. God is watching over me, no matter what happens.
When I look at those of the mountains in Alaska, I can’t help but be brought right back to the log I sat on every morning. The last picture is a pic taken from that log. I think about the grandeur and majesty of God – how much MORE does He love and care for ME? God spent time to create that scenery and He has spent time creating me. I look at those pictures and honestly get the warm fuzzies because I believe God sees me as beautiful, if not more beautiful than those mountains. Pieces of us have been “broken” and He is building us back up – but never once, did He think “not worth it.” Christ gave His life for ME, so that I may live with HIM someday.
It doesn’t matter how broken you may feel – God cares. Everyday, God sees us His child, wrapped underneath His wing of protection. The mountains proclaim His glory, so may we do the same. May everyday be a day to proclaim His name and who He created us to be. As Thursday is nearing, I am so grateful for God’s unconditional love for me – He declares that I am HIS.
